Goodyear is now looking into implementing an "intelligent" transportation system that would help the city in the regulation of its traffic lights and streets.

A fiber-optic cable hooked up to a central traffic management office will run through the streets of the city and transport information from traffic lights. Engineers can control the timing of these traffic lights to help vehicles move through the city.

This move is in preparation for other high-profile developments and amenities that will surely generate Goodyear a lot of traffic.

The first three areas where the fiber-optic trafic lines will be installed:

• Along Litchfield Road from Wigwam Boulevard to Arizona 85.
• Along McDowell Road from Sarival Road to Litchfield Road.
• Along Estrella Parkway from Arizona 85 to McDowell Road.
