The History of Goodyear

Full Description:

"Included in other acreage acquired by the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in 1916 to produce Egyptian long-fiber cotton was one tract crossed by Chandler branch of the Arizona Eastern Railroad. It had a station called Casaba. The word casaba is Spanish for "melon", and many melons grew in the vicinity. The main town for the development, one and a half miles north, was briefly known as Egypt (because of the variety of cotton), but the name Goodyear was soon applied to both the community and the cotton ranch. In 1944, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company sold its property. The name Goodyear was transferred to the discontinued post office to the new town of Goodyear. See Litchfield Park, Arizona. PO Est Jan 8, 1918, G. Lindley Gallands PM; disc. Feb 15, 1941; reest in new location Nov 22, 1944.
