American Cancer Society - Relay For Life

Full Description:

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It is a unique activity that offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Relays are 12 to 24 hours in length and go overnight. Teams of 8 to 15 people camp out at a local high school, park or fairground and take turns walking around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because Relay For Life is a community gathering, rather than an athletic event, anyone and everyone can participate. Teams form from businesses, clubs, families, friends, hospitals, churches, schools, and service organizations. These people share a common purpose – their support of the American Cancer Society’s mission. OPPORTUNITIES FOR INVOLVEMENT **Committee Members needed for Team Recruitment, Corporate Sponsorship, Logistics/Facility, Entertainment, Registration/Accounting, Survivorship, Public Relations, Cancer Education, and Refreshments/Food. **Form a team of 8-15 people by targeting individuals and groups that are health conscious and enjoy group activities. **Day of volunteers needed to help with set up and clean up, Luminaria sales, survivor reception, kid activities, and Luminaria Ceremony. **Calling all survivors! We would like to invite you to take the first lap around the track as a celebration of your victory. This may be emotional for some and exciting for others – but it shows the significance of why we need to keep fighting this fight. Your strength and courage show us that it is possible to win the battle. Invite your family and friends to come take part in this special dedication for you. A Survivor’s reception will be held following the first lap. We have monthly meetings to plan for this 24 hour event which will be held Oct 4-5, 2003 at Estrella Foothills High school.
